Broughton and Catalans continue fine form

26 Mai 2018 21:35

Jodie Broughton and Catalans Dragons continued their resurgent form by defeating the struggling Leeds Rhinos 33-20 in Perpignan.

Winger Broughton scored his eighth try in four games in all competitions as the Dragons secured successive victories for the first time this season to continue their push towards Super League's top eight.

Leeds, meanwhile, have lost five of their last six and now sit sixth, 13 points behind leaders St Helens.

Greg Bird, Ben Garcia and Michael McIlorum all crossed as Catalans – who were unable to pick controversial new signing Kenny Edwards – took a resounding 17-4 lead into the break, Ash Handley providing the Rhinos' solitary response after Sam Moa was sent to the sin bin for a high shot on Dragons half-back Richie Myler.

Brett Ferres and Ryan Hall helped reduce the deficit to just three points, but a quickfire double from Tony Gigot and Josh Drinkwater put the hosts firmly in control with 12 minutes remaining.

Broughton then got in on the act, with Brad Dwyer's late score proving nothing but a consolation.
