Bryan earns first PGA Tour win at RBC Heritage

17 April 2017 00:33

Wesley Bryan not only won his first PGA Tour event at the RBC Heritage, he also added to Luke Donald's unprecedented heartbreak at Harbour Town Golf Course.

American Bryan, 27, carded a four-under-par 67 to win the tournament by a stroke on Sunday.

Bryan finished 13 under overall to beat Donald, handing the former world number one his seventh top-three finish at the event since 2009 without a win.

Donald has lost the Heritage in almost every way imaginable. Possibly his most horrifying defeat occurred in 2014 when Matt Kuchar holed out from the front bunker on the 72nd hole to defeat the former.

This week, Donald tried to break some hearts of his own after falling all the way back to seven under with a double-bogey on the par-five second hole. He was seven shots back at that point.

But he would not go down quietly. Instead of folding, Donald played the rest of his final round bogey-free with five birdies to card a three-under 68.

Donald - who has not won on Tour since 2012 - shared the lead heading into the final four holes, but Bryan birdied the par-five 15th while the Englishman settled for par.

Patrick Cantlay's (67) career resurgence continued with his third-place finish at 11 under alongside Ollie Schniederjans (68) and William McGirt (69).

J.J. Spaun (69), 2009 winner Brian Gay (67) and Graham DeLaet (73) were a shot further back, meanwhile last year's champion Branden Grace (68) finished five strokes off the pace.
