Carr: Supporters jumping ship after Las Vegas vote not ´true Raider fans´

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr says supporters who cut ties with the team due to their planned move to Las Vegas are not "true Raider fans".

The Raiders' proposal to move to Vegas was approved by 31 of the 32 NFL owners last month. Their next two seasons will be spent in Oakland and there is a possibility the Raiders could play the 2019 campaign in the Bay Area before leaving for Nevada.

Talk of boycotts by fans has followed the announcement, but Carr believes supporters who do not stay faithful to the franchise were never really fans to begin with.

"We're not going to split up like you've seen other cities do," Carr said. "We're not going to do things like that. For the ones that do, I don't really believe that they're true Raider fans.

"I feel their hurt. I'm with you. I hurt, too. But at the same time, we're all in this together and we're just going to do it together.

"Out of like 1,000 people, you're going to get one or two that have something to say and that's with everything. Hopefully y'all don't focus on that kind of stuff because there's the 99 percent that are loyal, faithful fans that are going to ride with us wherever we're at."

Carr is looking forward to the future and is hopeful fans are as well.

"Yeah, they should be really excited," Carr said. "We have a good football team that works really hard, of great character.

"When we go there, it's not so much us incorporating into Vegas, it's the Las Vegas people incorporating into the Raiders.

"We're not going to change who we are. We're coming into this city, we're bringing our brand, we're bringing the Silver and Black and hopefully they just come and be a part of it. That's what we want. We want them to be a part of it now.

"But again, our focus is here in Oakland right now."

Carr later clarified his comments on Twitter, posting: "Just in case I was misunderstood...I love ALL Raider fans, wherever they are from.... We are in this together, always!"
